Creating an ASC account¶
Create a new account (without invitation)¶
If you are a project manager you typically want to signup directly and create a project afterwards.
Open the website auth.asc.ac.at in your browser and click the "Sign Up" button as shown at the bottom of the following picture.
Open an invite link¶
If you received an invitiation link you will roughly see the same steps, however some of the fields already come prefilled due to you being invited by your project administrator.
Different methods of logging in¶
Regardless of using the "Signup" or getting an invite link, on the next screen you can then choose to authenticate via "ACOnet Identity Federation" if your organization is part of this federation or by creating a local account.
Login via the federation is recommended but if this is not possible you need to select the "Local Account" option.
ACOnet Federation¶
Select your organization from the search bar and proceed to login at your organizations IdP.
Other organizations
If your organization is not listed you need to go to 'Sign up' and create a local account. This account has to be manually activated by us, after which you will be notified. Should you have done that already, use the option 'Login with local ASC Account'
After this you will be shown the details we obtained from your organizations IdP.
By pressing next the account will be created and if your organisation is known to us you will have directly access to our project management tool (group "asc-clad-user").
If your organization is not yet allowed to access please write to our support mail address.
Local Account¶
If you want to create a local account, you will be redirected to a prompt to enter additional information.
If you signed up using this method we have to manually add your user to the approriate affiliation.
Please write to our support mail address for further instructions.
Multi-Factor Authentication¶
In both cases you need to select an additional authentication method to be your second factor.
Our current options include
- WebAuthn https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebAuthn
- TOTP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-based_one-time_password
If you're not familiar with the two provided methods its easiest to start with TOTP by downloading e.g. "Twilio Authy", "Google Authenticator", etc ... to your smartphone and then follow the instructions on screen.
Note
If you abort the setup at this point don't worry, you will be prompted again for MFA when you first login.
